The Monumento al Campesino erected by the artist César Manrique is a memorial in honour of the hard working peasant farmers of Lanzarote. lt is a rough sculpture in white building blocks made into a fantasy figure of a Lanzarote farmer and camel. The blocks are actually empty containers formerly used to store water in. The great white sculpture stands out against the blue sky. (Location see map below)

Right next to it, stands an old manor house in the typical style of the time with a lovely interior courtyard. lt is now a countryside museum. There are little shops as well as a shoe maker, a gift shop, Wine shop, basket maker and others. It is worth to make a walkabout and to visit the historical exhibitions of Lanzarote, the country life as well as the handcrafts and artist's workshops.

A "tapas-bar" you will find in the court yard to sit in the sun. An excellent restaurant is also to be found in the complex of buildings. A huge subterraneous hall with a domed roof and underground passages in lava stone with little water falls is available for festivities, conferences and concerts.

In the historic manor house now you find exhibitions of Lanzarote's history,
handcrafts shops and artist's workshops to visit and to buy.
