This old farming village which stands at 450m above sea level was once a place of refuge from pirates coming from the sea to held up and to rob farmers on the very poor island. The valley is very fertile and the ground produce large onions and juicy tomatoes, also there are growing some vine, maize and potatoes. (Location of Femés see map below)
Femés provides one supermarket, three restaurants/bars and a well known cheese shop which is quiet interesting for people who like fresh goat cheese in various tastes, who like to buy some wine from the vintager or to look if there are potatoes, tomatoes or other fresh greenstuff from the local farmes to buy. Goat cheese is a speciallity and visitors can buy it very fresh and made from local farmers according to old recipes: "Quesería Rubicón" in the village centre behind the Bar Femés. From the so-called "Mirador de Femés", 450 metres above sea level, visitors have a lovely overlooking view to the "Rubicón Lowlands" towards Playa Blanca with the "Montaña Roja" (the Red Mountain) and the southern tip of the island up to the neighbor island of Fuerteventura, an impressive panorama ocean view. Up here there is a restaurant "Mirador" with terrace and balcony - perfect to take a drink while enjoying the wide fantastic view. ![]() Village center with roundabout and Bar Restaurant Femés (right)
